The reishi mushroom’s extensive historical and medicinal significance is not easily summarized. Said to be first mentioned in Shennong’s Bencaojing (the earliest pharmacy monograph, written almost 2000 years ago), reishi has long been consumed for medicinal aid. Artistic representations of reishi began appearing on carvings and pottery during the Han Dynasty (206 BC-220 AD) in China. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, it earned the title “the mushroom of immortality” for its wide-ranging health benefits. Celebrated for its medicinal properties and ability to promote overall wellness, and being that it was so rare in nature, for centuries only nobility had the privilege of enjoying it. Reishi is also referred to as lingzhi (translating to spiritual potency and immortality), with the scientific name Ganodorma lucidum (from the Latin word lucidus for shiny or brilliant).
Numerous therapeutic properties attributed to reishi consumption between the 1st and 3rd centuries have since been substantiated by modern scientific research. Many of the specific polysaccharides extracted from Ganoderma lucidum have been isolated and studied for their pharmacological effects. These are referred to as GLP’s (G. lucidum polysaccharides) and have been shown to have an array of properties, including but not limited to:
-
anti-tumor
-
anti-inflamitory
-
anti-fatigue

What are tinctures?
Tinctures are extracts wherein the main solvent is a high proof alcohol.
Forage & Cultivate Reishi Tincture is made from certified organic cane alcohol, reverse osmosis and/or deionized water, and 100% reishi mushrooms we grow using organic substrate. All of our tinctures are dual extracted, meaning they are extracted for both their alcohol soluble and their water soluble active compounds.
How should I take my reishi tincture?
Shake well before using. Take your tincture once in the morning and once in the afternoon by filling the attached dropper 1 or 2 times (2-4 mL/day), distributing it under the tongue, or in a drink of your choice.
If you find taking reishi makes you too relaxed for your daily workload, I suggest taking only 2 full droppers at night about 1-2 hours before bedtime. I love taking Reishi for my sleep. It helps me silence ruminating thoughts and drift into a deep REM sleep with cathartic dreams.
